Toronto Maple Leafs: Draft Strategy Without a First-Round Pick

As we come to the drafts, the Toronto Maple Leafs do not have a first-round pick, and I do not expect them to dip back into the first round. Most people I have talked to have told me that after the top 10, the draft drops in talent, and for 15-32, who will be picked is anybody's guess. I would not put too much into missing the first round.

That being said, the Maple Leafs will be looking for a hidden gem in the second round. If I were General Manager, I would add to the defense and goaltending. A future second-line centre also comes to mind. So, moving forward, let's find some diamonds in the rough.

Before we move into the draft, fans are wondering if the Maple Leafs will try to trade Marner's rights. Let me put the kybosh on this right now. Marner controls where he goes. He will not help the team in any way, shape, or form. The bottom line is that he wants to test free agency and move on with his career. As for JT, it is said that the Maple Leafs will take a more active role in signing him.

Now the draft

Second Round

64. Peyton Kettles - Defence

Peyton is a stay-at-home defenceman who plays with a chip on his shoulder. He does not have experience in the offensive game, but if you want a shutdown Dman, Peyton is your guy.

Third Round

86. Noah Read - Left-Wing

Speedster with a ton of energy.

Fifth round

137. Petter Rimpinen - Goalie

A solid goalie who has a ton of potential

153. Carter Klippenstein - Centre

Sixth Round

185. Jacob Kvasnicka - Right-Wing

Seventh Round

217. Noel Skarby - Left-Wing
