What does Brad Treliving bring as the new Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager? I was ecstatic at the hire, and I'm about to tell you why. After the tumultuous period following the Dubas debacle, the team needs a stable, reliable leader. Most people say it was the safe choice—meaning he is boring. But I believe it was absolutely necessary to bring Brad in, given the unique qualities he brings to the table.
Stability
Treliving brings a quiet, businesslike atmosphere to the dressing room. He exudes confidence, which in turn instills confidence in those around him. With Treliving in charge, there will be no knee-jerk reactions or rash decisions made in management. You can trust the people who are in charge. He will make sure they know that he trusts their decisions. There will be no more helter skelter in Toronto.
Deep Knowledge
Treliving knows the Canadian market. He knows the media. He knows how to handle public relations. Anything that comes out of Toronto is what he wants to be released. He is a skilled general when it comes to strategy. No one will be caught with their pants down, and the Maple Leafs will run like a well-oiled machine.
He is a player and a taker. He is a midnight shaker.
Brad puts on his pants one leg at a time. When things need to be done, he will get it done. When a decision is to be made, he takes people's input and has everybody have their say, and then he has the guts to make the decision. Yes, he can make things right.
I love the choice and look forward to the successful reign of Brad Treliving.
